Monterey Mock Birth

Doula + Birth Photography Workshop

Why? What? Huh? Mock Birth?

Yup. Let Me Explain.

You have just discovered birth photography and doula work is an actual thing. Either you recently had an experience with birth (your own baby or a friend who had a baby) and you’ve experienced what we call “The Birth High.”

It is in inexplicable feeling of euphoria, mixed with some adrenaline and oxytocin. Which makes for an addicting obsession. Believe me, I know. Nearly 9 years on, and I still am chasing that feeling. Over those 9 years I have learned a thing or two and THAT is what I want to share with you in this two part workshop.

Doula Work + Birth Photography

Can they integrate?

We are having a 3 hour work shop broken down into two parts.

  • Birth Photography (1.5 hours)
  • Doula (1.5 hours)

I believe these two words go hand in hand together. I believe you can’t have one without the other and Birth Photographers NEED to have some element of DOULA in their bones and doulas NEED to know how to document. This workshop is not going to teach you how to be a fly on the wall.

Flies on the wall are bullshit excuses for people not understanding how to integrate their physical bodies and emotional energies into the birth space. Which is why I am pairing these two explosive workshops together.

Each of these segments will be able to be understood as standalone units, however if you are to put the two together, is when fireworks will start to go off in your panties.

During our birth photography segment, we will be discussing:
Please feel free to bring your camera and take photos. These images are able to be used for your portfolio and shared publicly.

– how to create a story
– camera settings (camera phones welcome!)
-using the gear you have and making the most out of it
– photographing a pregnant birthing person within the walls of Monterey Birth Centre for a live demo
-why birth photography needs doula qualities and what that means
-why we need birth photography
-giving what the clients want and why we need to know the physiology of birth

During our Doula segment, we are discussing:

-advocacy and how to give that back to the birthing person
– mixing doula and photography and WHY WE NEED IT
-getting out of a damage control mindset and entering a preventative mindset
-my own personal doula workflow
-avoiding trauma instead of managing it
-how birth is engrained in us on a cellular level
